his Lordship

quick sketch

His Lordship has reached the tender age of 50. A character and a half. He has a presence perhaps inspired by his illustrious father, John Neville  (starring role in Terry Gilliam's The Adventures of Baron Munchausen (1988). His Lordship has a booming radio announcers voice and is seldom not the centre of attention. Happy Birthday.

the Listener

A friend and listener engaged in conversation with the Researcher. May 2013

the Researcher

The sharpie has aged this youthful 20 something Spanish speaking researcher. He spoke to the listener in a suave and playfully confident English at the Red Tavern on Spadina. A researcher in communication. Please email knightonart@gmail.com with your thoughts.

Chanel amongst the cigarettes

Chanel amongst the cigarette butts

A recent painting, whilst I prefer portraits this is painted from a photo taken in Kensington Market, Toronto. I was struck by the beauty and the decadence.

The purpose of this art is to start a conversation

Avril, ME Me ME, Nuit Blanche

Film Editor Avril Jacobson sketched at Gallery 1313 on 1313 Queen Street
at Nuit blanche

AJ's statement

By removing a wall between residents and passers by her work reveals the paradox of high density living:

even when we are all alone we are all together.

me me me visual media artist story

DicK Northwood, Nuit Blanche

Erotic Photographer and Nuit Blanche Gladstone exhibitor, Richard Northwood cut a remarkable figure of a man and is featured in many of his photographic compositions. His associate was equally compelling that to my eye was part of the art form itself.

Richard Northwood was invited by the Gladstone for Nuit Blanche to display his thoughtful erotica. An oxymoron you might say but times have changed. Erotica is no longer a fringe art and judging by the popularity of his exhibition it is main street and Northwood is ready to Play

Nuit Blanche Belle

Initially unaware of the my gallery project but in the spirit of nuit blanche she tolerated my sketching. There is something about this particular sketch that draws me.

Completed in the Gladstone: temple and supporter of  the arts.

The drawing was given, I believe, to an admirer...A tall good looking gentleman of  Asian decent

Joan, watercolourist Nuit Blanche

Joan, a watercolourist is currently exhibiting in Gallery 1313.  Joan's water colour (name to follow) was completed this year in Cornwall. Painted in vivid blues and yellows of a rugged and beautiful coastline somewhere in Cornwall, England.
(picture to follow)

Joan was initially unsure what to make of me as I started to sketch her onto the pages of a Nuit Blanche program. We talked as I sketched. Certainly I take a chance every time I draw someone unannounced.

Joan had a presence that  I hope was translated into my sketch.

We talked, and Joan shared an illustrators secret as I committed the sharpie to the page. We both admired Avril's work, me me me, a commissioned nuit blanche artist.

was then onto the Gladstone

Rachel,Thespian Nuit Blanche 2012

Rachel, student,
writer and majoring in theatrical arts will be completing her BA in a matter of weeks.

In her other incarnation she works as barkeep at not my dog on Queen.  Rachel served me a water as I completed a second Nuit Blanche sketch on the program for the event.

She sang along with the music and indeed had a fine voice.

Nick, Nuit Blanche 2012

Nick, Nuit Blanche...in the midst of a career change. Nick initially studied massage therapy but is intending to translate those skills into nursing. Nick a local Parkdalian appreciated this quick gesture. More copy to follow

rec + art history

Titled: After the Varnish

Here is the proprietor of Rec + art history 1080 Queen Street sort of...I barely got to look at him: he was hard at work refinishing a future gem. Much of the drawing is inferred from an occasional glance. I thought the background ideal for this drawing.

in his store you will find curated retro curios, and vintage decor items.

Yes Twins

Yes Twins. A new contented mother enjoys a tea with a group of Mothers with new borns...I did think the caption says it all. Motherhood is quite a journey.

Wed 26th 2012

Black is beautiful. A women sketched at Ttriangle on Queen wearing a tasteful black suit working in the movie distribution industry.

A sharpie is sometimes a blunt instrument for for fine features but a semblance never the less.

Pavel

Top left: Pavel, owner of Mexi-can on College near Lansdowne allowed me to capture his youthful bravado whilst he prepared a Burrito to rave about!

As I sketched Pavel, we talked. Despite being just 20, Pavel already has been building his restaurant for a year and a half. His cousin is already operating a second location on college. Next year he plans a patio to accommodate his growing clientele. When I completed this drawing he called his grandmother, perhaps is the reason the recipes are truly authentic, to view it. My casual impression now resides on the side of his fridge. I think his impression shows the chutzpah of young entrepreneur.

No.2. Tenzin.Tenzin watched me sketch an astrologer and waited patiently to request a sketch. Tenzin is an accomplished student in manga but rarely draws from life. Attending school his desires flip between the legal profession and art.
Go with your heart.

No.3 Alexandra...Alexandra is a new mature 1st year student at the UFT.  Studying ardently over a coffee materials for a Humanities program. She had noticed me attempting to draw her and made an effort to hold her pose.
Thank you for that.
I did apologize for the three left eyes and whilst it wasn't perfect at all I did think it capture something of her warm character. We talked for about architecture and urban planning where her interests seem to be taking her. I am confident if the Alexandra takes this root the world in a small way will be more livable.

Improvisationalist

I spotted Julian (left) inside the Embassy on 223 Augusta in Toronto waiting for Shauna Jean...a photographic artist working with retro polaroids. Her work is well worth checking out.  http://infinitycityarchive.tumblr.com/archive

Julian announced himself as an improvisationalist... then a lawyer...part of his improvisation perhaps?
I think the background is perfect, A cup revealing sunflowers. Julian was personable and very confident with a King of Kensington style. Thanks Julian.

Also met a OCAD instructor...I passed on a sketch which I omitted to take a photo of....could you take a pic and email it perhaps?
Here are 2 sketches of people in Kensington enjoying coffee and conversation...I was to bashful to ask their names. I was just getting into the rhythm of things and previous drawings just were not happening...Thanks, Jeff at Cycle Couture though for allowing me to sketch u... I'll have to try again.

Cycle Couture sells artful beautifully made cycles in unique colours. So if your looking for a dutch style bike visit him on College near Dovercourt.
