At The Mascot

Some names and stories to follow
Pic 2
Osheen , an experimental photographer. My portrait is hardly photographically realistic but the background has an experimental feel.. Osheen sports a fine red beard.  And I might be forgiven thinking he could have Celtic roots.
Osheen is in fact Armenian. I urge you to visit his website www.osheen.ca. Our city is full of talent and energy. Osheen's work can be found at the Lonsdale Gallery.

Pic 3
Dan, at the Cameron supping a beer with a good friend whom had apparently invited him to a recent wedding. Dan is a sound man able to solve tech audio issues in a single bound caught attentively listening to band.

Bottom and putting on an incredibly animated
performance of musical theatre, art, comedy and music with some appropriately risque overTONES Mr Rich and the lollipops are why this city is livable.

See them Tuesdays at the Cameron... otherwise if u don't it will be bad for your cultural health.

Balluchon 221 Sorauren Ave.

This is the second drawing I made when I was conceiving how this project might work. I began posting work in August. I was happy Raymond had kept it. Raymond had offered me a free coffee and on leaving I gave him this simple sketch of an unknown patron in June. His reaction was generous and positive and helped confirm that individuals would be interested in work completed on this media. Raymond's encouragement was invaluable.

In doing this project...taking it to the streets as it were ... I have already had the chance to meet many people. Most subjects are initially unaware that I am committing their impression to newsprint. I present my subject with a signed sketch. Although I am not always confident overwhelmingly the reaction has been positive. I think we innately enjoy interacting and sharing art in whatever form.

Enjoy a great coffee at Balluchon
I might sketch you

Wemke from Amsterdam

Wemke
This was my first drawing of the evening so I chose a simplified pose.

I did not get a chance to look at my subject,Wemke,
more than a a few times.  A green shoulder scarf is suggested. Wemke was talking with a accomplished Honky Tonk piano player, Thomas, who could almost make the piano talk in Dutch. Sadly I don't know who he was. Check back.

Wemke had classic features which made things a little easier. I was asked to pose in a photo I had a geek like reaction. Next time I'll be prepared. They were warm people, Thank you Wemke and company.

Please send me a picture if this casual impression makes it to Holland. It certainly would be nice to think that this drawing was a connection to Canada.
Have a great vacation

An unknown person in the communist daughter with chiselled features. The table allowed me to sketch them all. Thank you for that!

The interesting cast on the drawing is a combination of the iPhone camera and photoshop.

If you personally view this blog Kindly send me an e mail with your first name, Or leave a comment.

Tyrone at the Mascot

Tyrone
Tyrone, a local celeb,  ( that's anyone who can make a great  cup of coffee in my book ) working at Mascot Cafe at 1267 Queen W. One of the most unique art cafes in Toronto! Parkdalians frequent this destination for the trendy ambiance, Cappuccinos, Americanos, and conversation . I particularly like its quirky decor ( decor like the porcelain tiger next to a white ceramic rabbit ) A worthwhile visit.

Always a good art show to be seen!

Thank you Jessie to.

Just Singin at the Gladstone by David Knighton
Arlene Paculan
A striking Arlene Paculan, singer was in full voice at the Gladstone, September 8th, 2012 . A fan encouraged me to make a quick sketch.
Obscured partly by the microphone some features are  a little more erratic than delicate.
The sharpie is bold.

Arlene has a new song available on iTunes called
"I'm worth it"
www.arlenepaculan.com

Thank you Arlene for your encouraging comments

Hansome Gerome

Above: handsome Gerome, a journalist from Paris perhaps here for Tiff or vacation caught in a Vintage Clothing store on Queen...Do send me something back...it would be nice to think my sketches could be found in Paris. I wonder how they would interpret the Dan Savage, Savage Love column
its is drawn on.

Left: Dennis, Proprietor of said Vintage Store, collector of fine Genuine Vintage Clothing who apparently has a store in London. His store is a must visit for those who enjoy an eclectic classic fashion sense set artfully amongst period props.  I like the chosen background for it's edgy fashion photography.

my Crawl ended at the Drake

If this Drake patron signs in please email some details about yourself...he was delighted to receive this fridge art. please send an email to me at knightonart@gmail.com

Met at the Mascot on Queen with his partner and Americano and was sketched whilst in the line up.

Steve is I understand is a talented fellow artist who loves 60's music and asked Tyrone the name of the song playing in the background of the cafe.:
Gary Lewis and the playboys

Virpi Kettu
Charlotte

Sept 5, 2012

Drawings completed at the Communist daughter at 1pm . TOP SKETCH, Virpi Kettu a painter, and also a incredible animator and filmmaker who worked on Wallace and  Grommet no less. Almost as soon as I started sketching Virpi understood immediately what I was trying to do and had posed as a artists model before. Thank you for that. I would like to think some of her energy and sensitivity make it into this casual sketch.

Entering her name on YouTube and find some of the projects she has worked on. See her unique take on animation.

and a regal Charlotte, hailing from the UK Suffolk East Anglia, with a friend...and others around her, enjoying the peculiar ambiance of the Communist.

Charlotte is on a walk about travelling the globe. We all should do that.

Thank you both !

Lucien Freud

portrait of LUCIAN FREUD, 2011

sketched on the retrospective exhibition notes of the Lucien Freud exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery in London. Here is an aging and grizzled Lucien Freud coming to life on his own page. Freud's perspective was unique and to the bone, unfettered by convention. In large part he single handedly has reinvigorated the art of portraiture.

The purpose of this art is to start a conversation
